Mark Ruffalo Returns as Hulk

Mark Ruffalo has been confirmed to reprise his role as Bruce Banner, better known as the Hulk, in the upcoming Sony/Marvel film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This return comes 14 years after his initial appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with The Avengers.

The news comes as production is set to begin this month in England, following months of speculation about Ruffalo’s involvement as the script took shape.

Familiar Faces Join the Cast

In addition to Ruffalo, Michael Mando will return to his role as the Scorpion, a character he first portrayed in Spider-Man: Homecoming released in 2017. Mando is well-known for his role as Nacho Varga on the critically acclaimed series Better Call Saul.

Following the trend of Holland’s Spider-Man films, which have featured seasoned actors such as Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, and Benedict Cumberbatch, Brand New Day also adds Jon Bernthal, returning as the Punisher. This marks the character’s first significant appearance in the MCU since the 2008 film Punisher: War Zone.

Plot Details and Direction

While specifics about the plot are under wraps, fans can expect classic Marvel interactions, with Spider-Man, Punisher, and Hulk likely facing off against each other before addressing their true enemies.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will helm Brand New Day, with the script written by returning writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.
