Filmmaker’s Hospitalization
Francis Ford Coppola has been admitted to a hospital in Rome for a scheduled medical procedure. The esteemed director underwent treatment with Dr. Andrea Natale, a heart specialist who has been caring for him for over three decades. Sources indicate that Coppola is currently resting comfortably.
Recent Activities
Before his hospitalization, Coppola completed a six-city tour in the United States to promote his film Megalopolis, in conjunction with Live Nation. His final event took place at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, where a screening of the film was followed by a Q&A session.
Reflections on Life
During the event, Coppola, who recently turned 86, shared personal reflections with the audience. He remarked, “I’m 85,” indicating his awareness of the passage of time. He also spoke about the loss of his wife, Eleanor Coppola, stating, “I lost my wife around this time last year. But my attitude for death is that I always lived my life so that when I was at the moment approaching death, I wouldn’t say, ‘Oh, I wish I had done this and I wish I had done that.’ Instead, I say to myself, ‘I got to do this.’”
Calabria Project
It remains unclear when exactly Coppola returned to Italy over the recent weekend. Earlier this summer, he had been in the region scouting locations for an upcoming project. He expressed excitement about his work in Calabria, stating, “I’m here in Calabria to see some locations for a new project that’s very important to me. A new film that will focus on the beautiful things of Calabria.”
Focus on Beauty
While specific details about the new film are scant, Coppola has hinted that it will not center on mafia themes, which were prominent in his acclaimed The Godfather trilogy. He emphasized, “Calabria is a region very famous for its mafia, but that doesn’t interest me. My film instead will focus solely on the beautiful things about this region.”
