Launch Announcement
Fox Corporation is ready to unveil its new streaming platform, Fox One, later this month at a subscription rate of $20 per month. CEO Lachlan Murdoch unveiled the details during the company’s earnings call on Tuesday, August 5, 2023.
Key Launch Date
Fox One will officially launch on August 21, strategically aligning with the debut of Big Noon Saturday, Fox’s premier college football program, as well as the kickoff for the NFL season and the Major League Baseball playoffs.
Targeting Cord-Never Consumers
During the call, Murdoch emphasized that Fox One aims to reach cord-never consumers—those who have never subscribed to traditional pay-TV services. He stated, “And yes, we will be offering bundling opportunities that make sense to achieve our targeted objectives.” Furthermore, he noted that Fox’s expectations for subscriber numbers are realistic, reflecting a long-term approach to the service.
Bundling Options
While Fox One will not include the company’s other platforms, Fox Nation and B1G+, in its base subscription price, these services will be available as add-ons. For those interested, a bundle combining Fox One and Fox Nation will be priced at $24.99 per month.
Innovative Technology
The new service is expected to feature advanced AI-driven personalization technologies that will integrate live and on-demand content for a fluid user experience. Murdoch mentioned that the costs associated with the launch will be modest, primarily focusing on technology and marketing expenses, with all content originating from existing Fox channels.
Consumer-Centric Bundles
Fox is already working on developing additional bundles for Fox One alongside other company services. “One of the things with the bundles that we’re cognizant of is there’s two factors,” Murdoch elaborated. “One is to offer the consumer the most convenient package of our content and channels and others that they desire to subscribe to, the most convenient, the most valuable bundles that you could put together.” He added that while they aim to stay focused on the cord-cutter audience, they also wish to simplify access to content.
Anticipating Viewer Engagement
“We’re eager to launch Fox One in just a few weeks and super serve our viewers with the best in live news, sports and entertainment content all in one place,” said Pete Distad, CEO of direct-to-consumer for Fox Corporation. He underlined that bringing a comprehensive range of Fox content together under one roof represents a strong value proposition for cord-cutters and those not served by traditional pay-TV packages.
