Disney’s ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Tops U.K. and Ireland Box Office

“Fantastic Four: First Steps” dominates UK box office. Upcoming films include “The Naked Gun” reboot, BTS concert doc, and global indie releases.

Disney’s latest release, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” has surged to the number one position in the U.K. and Ireland box office, achieving an impressive debut of £8.1 million ($10.8 million), as reported by Comscore.

Maintaining its second spot, Warner Bros.’ “Superman” added another $2.5 million during its third weekend, bringing its total earnings to $28.7 million. Meanwhile, Universal’s animated sequel “The Bad Guys 2” debuted in third place with a total of $2.1 million.

“Jurassic World Rebirth” dropped to fourth place but performed well, also earning $2.1 million in its fourth weekend, resulting in a total of $38.5 million. Closing out the top five was Warner Bros.’ racing drama “F1,” which collected $867,818, raising its cumulative total to $26.3 million after five weeks.

Yash Raj Films’ Bollywood romantic drama “Saiyaara” made a significant leap from tenth to sixth place, garnering $675,380 and reaching a total of $1.3 million. Following closely in seventh is Paramount’s “Smurfs,” which collected $642,120 for a total of $3.7 million. Sony’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” earned $503,886 in its second week, bringing its total to $2.6 million.

Universal’s animated feature “How To Train Your Dragon” ranked ninth, pulling in $398,880 and lifting its total to $28.7 million. Finally, Sony’s “28 Years Later” rounded out the top ten with $232,836, reaching a cumulative total of $20.2 million.

Looking ahead, the upcoming week promises a diverse selection of new films, including tentpoles, reissues, indie titles, and international releases. On Wednesday, July 30, Trafalgar Releasing is set to debut “BTS Army: Forever We Are Young,” a concert film that showcases the global K-pop phenomenon.

The following day, Thursday, July 31, Dreamz Entertainment will introduce the Indian Telugu-language action film “Kingdom,” featuring Vijay Deverakonda.

Friday, August 1, will see a wave of openings, including the wide release of Paramount’s “The Naked Gun” reboot and the fantasy adventure “The Legend of Ochi” from Entertainment Film Distributors, starring Helena Zengel, Finn Wolfhard, Emily Watson, and Willem Dafoe.

Modern Films is releasing the Norwegian drama “Oslo Stories Trilogy: Dreams,” directed by Dag Johan Haugerud, which has already garnered three awards at this year’s Berlinale. The indie slate will also include Vertigo Releasing’s SXSW pick “40 Acres,” Berlinale entry “Late Shift,” Park Circus’ 2K restoration of Stephen Frears’ classic “My Beautiful Laundrette,” Bulldog’s documentary “Dogspiracy,” and the Sundance winner “2000 Meters to Andriivka.”

Animated films will feature “Savages,” a family-friendly story from Claude Barras, being handled by MetFilm, and “Heidi: Rescue of the Lynx,” an adventure from Kaleidoscope Entertainment.

Additional international offerings include Zee Studios’ “Dhadak 2,” a Bollywood remake of the Tamil hit “Pariyerum Perumal,” along with Dreamz Entertainment’s animated mythological tale “Mahavatar Narsimha,” the Kannada-language film “Su From So,” and Moviegoers Entertainment’s “Son Of Sardaar 2,” featuring Ajay Devgn.

Sony Pictures will also preview the horror film “Bring Her Back” ahead of a broader rollout. Rounding off the week, Anime Ltd will reissue Mamoru Hosoda’s acclaimed movie “Summer Wars” in 4K on Sunday, August 3, ensuring a busy week for cinema enthusiasts.
